Heinz Lange (December 18, 1919 - June 11, 2000) was a well-known Merritt teacher and inventor. Windmills were his passion at least as early as 1967. His "normal" windmills were used to aerate local lakes. By 1974, he had developed a vertical axle helical windmill prototype. A decade later he was issued patents for his unique design that he dubbed the Wind Onion.
