Wild Wind Onion

Heinz Lange (December 18, 1919 - June 11, 2000) was a well-known Merritt teacher and inventor. Windmills were his passion at least as early as 1967. His "normal" windmills were used to aerate local lakes. By 1974, he had developed a vertical axle helical windmill prototype. A decade later he was issued patents for his unique design that he dubbed the Wind Onion.

NEWS RELEASE: The trenches in song and story

An evening with the Merritt Community Choir and the authors of a new book on the British Columbia experience with the First World War will occur on Saturday, Nov. 8 in the Nicola Valley. Greg Dickson and Mark Forsythe’s From the West Coast to the Western Front was compiled from stories, artifacts and photos shared by CBC Radio’s BC Almanac listeners. The concert and authors’ talk will occur in the Merritt library, 1691 Garcia, beginning at 6 p.m.

Nicola Valley 12-12-12 Photo Contest Winners

The Nicola Valley Museum & Archives offered copies of "Merritt and the Nicola Valley: An Illustrated History" as a prize to the first 100 contributors to the Nicola Valley 12-12-12 Photo Contest. Twenty-four people entered photographs. The judge, a well-known local artist, considered eight entries to be "exceptional" photographs fitting the 12-12-12 theme.
